Send per-recipient document links with Mailchimp
When you send a newsletter or announcement with Mailchimp, you don't need a separate link per recipient. Drop in the one link FeatPaper gives you and Mailchimp swaps the tag inside it for each recipient's email as it sends, so you can see exactly who opened the document.
The steps below follow the actual screens in Mailchimp's own documentation. The originals are linked under Official guides at the bottom of this page.
Copy the link from FeatPaper
Section titled “Copy the link from FeatPaper”- Open the Share tab on your FeatPaper document.
- In the Integrations section below, click the Bulk email sending row.
- In the Send with your email tool dialog, click Copy link on the Mailchimp row. Each tool uses a different tag, so always copy from its own row.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- A Mailchimp account with an audience
- Subscriber emails in that audience
- The Mailchimp link copied from FeatPaper
Add the link in Mailchimp
Section titled “Add the link in Mailchimp”- Create a campaign and open Edit Design in the Content step.
- Select the text or button you want to link and click Add a link.
- Paste the FeatPaper link into the URL field as is. Leave
*|EMAIL|*in place. Mailchimp swaps it for each subscriber's email at send time. - In preview, turn on Enable live merge info to see the link with real subscriber values.
- Send yourself a test, confirm the link now ends with your own email, then send the campaign.
Check that it worked
Section titled “Check that it worked”- Open the document from the link in the email you received.
- On the FeatPaper document, go to the Visitors tab and look under Dedicated link visitors for the address you just opened.
- A Mailchimp tag next to the email means the sending tool was recorded too.
If it doesn't work
Section titled “If it doesn't work”The tag arrived unreplaced
If you paste the address as plain text without turning it into a link, Mailchimp may not replace it. Make sure you used the URL field under Add a link. Opens from an unreplaced link are recorded without an email.
Clicks don't show in my Mailchimp report
That is expected. Mailchimp does not wrap links that contain a merge tag, so they fall outside click tracking. Check opens in FeatPaper's visitors tab instead.
Can I combine it with a conditional merge tag?
No. Mailchimp's documentation warns that a conditional merge tag inside a URL breaks the link. Keep only *|EMAIL|* inside the address.
