What is the Figma plugin?

The Figma plugin sends a design to FeatPaper from inside Figma. You do not convert the file to a PDF or download it first — the selection becomes a shareable document in one move.

The plugin works on every plan, including the free Starter plan. All you need is edit access to the target folder in your space.

Reach it right from My Documents

Open a folder in My Documents that has no documents yet. Figma, Adobe Express, and PowerPoint icons appear below the upload area in the center. Click the Figma icon to jump to the Figma Community install page below.

These icons show up only when the folder is empty. In a folder that already holds documents, use the install link below instead.

How to use it

Run the plugin

Choose right-click > Plugins > FeatPaper, or launch it from the top menu.

Sign in

Click Continue with Google, Continue with email, or Log in at the bottom. A browser popup carries the sign-in. The panel switches to Please complete it on the web… with a Cancel button and polls in the background; finish in the browser and it flips to signed in on its own.

A blocked popup is not reported as an error. The panel just holds on Please complete it on the web…, because the poll never gets an answer — there is no timeout and no failure message. Click Cancel, allow popups for the site, and start the sign-in again.

Pick a folder

The Home tab lists your FeatPaper folders. Open the one that will hold the document.

You cannot switch spaces from the plugin. It uses whichever space you last opened in the dashboard, so switch there first and relaunch the plugin. Shared folders you have no edit access to show greyed out, and clicking one returns “You do not have edit permission for this folder.”

Choose the frames

Select frames on the canvas and the plugin preview fills with pages. With nothing selected, the panel offers Select all on page. To drop a page from the preview, click it and press Delete.

Create it

Click Create at the bottom right, then Continue, and confirm the file name. When the conversion finishes you get a thumbnail, the share link with a copy button, and View details.

Each frame becomes one page of the document. Page order follows the frame order in the layer panel — where a frame sits on the canvas makes no difference. To resequence the pages, drag the frames up or down in the layer panel. On the document detail Content tab, the source reads ver. date · Figma.

Plans and permissions

The plugin itself is open on every plan. The real limits are the monthly upload count and the PDF size cap.

• Shared folders you have no edit access to still show in the list, greyed out. Click one and you get “You do not have edit permission for this folder.”
• A document you send into someone else’s folder counts against the plan of the space that folder belongs to.

Ways to use this

Turn the frames into one link instead of scattering exported images, and you get back where each viewer stopped.

Client review — see which screen held them longest

• Situation — you sent 20 mockups to a client and want to know which screens they cared about before the feedback call.
• Setup — arrange the frames on the canvas in the order you want them read, send them, then create one per-recipient link per reviewer on the Share tab (3 per document on Starter, 10 on Pro, unlimited on Business and above). Worried about the file leaking? Turn PDF download off in that link’s share settings (Pro and above).
• What you get — dwell time per frame is recorded page by page, so you know which screen to open the call with, and no source file ends up in the client’s hands.

Keep one link across several rounds of revisions

• Situation — the mockup goes through three or four revisions, and a new link each time leaves the client unsure which one is current.
• Setup — send the first round with Create. For every round after that, click the document on the Home tab and hit Update on the row that opens.
• What you get — the link and all the reading data collected so far carry over, and you don’t rebuild per-reviewer links — which also saves your per-document link allowance (3 on Starter). Clicking Create again gives you a second document with its own address instead.

Prototype navigation survives the trip — out of a design file. A click that jumps to another frame becomes a page jump inside the PDF, and a click that opens a URL stays a link. What does not come across is the animation and transition effect itself, along with any trigger other than a click. A jump only works when its destination frame went out in the same batch.

Figma Slides is the exception. The plugin skips slide-to-slide navigation when it reads a Slides deck, so those jumps are gone in the document. URL links and text hyperlinks still come through.

The Home and Insert tabs, and the three modes

The plugin splits in two.

• Home — your FeatPaper folders and documents. Create sits at the bottom; click a document row to open it and Update, Import, and Share appear there.
• Insert — where you drop a video or outside content onto the Figma canvas first.

Figma Slides works too, with the navigation caveat above — slide-to-slide jumps are dropped, everything else goes out as normal.

FigJam is not supported, and there is nothing to try. The plugin declares Figma design files and Figma Slides only, so it never appears in FigJam’s plugin list.

Run it once in a file and a relaunch button stays in that file’s right-hand panel, so next time you select frames and go.

Revising a design without changing the link

To keep one link pointing at the current design, use Update.

Find the document on the Home tab

Locate the document you sent earlier and click it to open its row.

Click Update

Click Update and select the frames for the new version.

Done

It lands as a new version of the same document. The share link and every view recorded so far carry over untouched, and per-recipient links keep working as they are.

An update does not move the document. It stays in the folder it was already in, even if the plugin is showing a different folder. To go back, roll the document to an earlier version under version management in the dashboard.

The Insert tab — video and outside content

For something that moves, you don’t need the dashboard — put it in from the plugin.

On the Insert tab, paste a link from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Calendly, Canva, Figma, Arcade, Tally, Typeform, Lottie, and Google Maps, Sheets, and Forms — or switch to Upload from This Device and pick an MP4 or GIF. Hit Preview, then Insert, and it drops onto the Figma canvas as an element; once the design goes out it becomes content that plays and responds in the viewer.

Video Settings — Auto Play, Loop, Mute, Hide Control — apply to video. A GIF is inserted without them, so those switches make no difference to one.

Two limits govern what you can put on the canvas, and they are not the same limit.

Size — 100MB per file, on every plan. Starter, Pro, Business, and Enterprise all get the same ceiling in the plugin. (The per-plan 30/50/100MB tiers belong to the web motion editor, not here.) Pick something bigger and the plugin refuses it up front: “This file is larger than 100 MB. Choose a file up to 100 MB.”

Count — videos and GIFs per document: 3 on Starter, 5 on Pro, unlimited on Business and Enterprise. The server enforces this one, and it behaves nothing like the size cap above.

The export still succeeds. The document uploads and opens. What gets rejected is the motion data, all of it at once rather than just the items past the cap — so the document opens with no motion at all. The surplus videos and GIFs are missing, and so are the embeds, click links, and page jumps that share the same payload. The plugin doesn’t inspect the server’s response, so nothing is reported in the panel; you discover it by opening the document.

What counts: uploaded video files and GIFs, totalled across the whole document rather than per page. What doesn’t: YouTube and Vimeo links, embeds, click links, and page jumps — those are unlimited, since the media sits on someone else’s servers.

If a document arrives with its motion missing, cut the count to the limit or below and export again — or replace some uploaded videos with YouTube or Vimeo links, which are exempt from the cap.

The gate only trips when the number increases. A document already over the cap, say after a downgrade, keeps its motion as long as you aren’t adding another one.

What counts as motion, and where you can change it

Only motion added on the plugin’s Insert tab is supported. Video or GIFs placed on a frame with Figma’s own tools are not supported as motion, so anything that needs to move in the viewer has to go through the Insert tab. (The PowerPoint plugin is the exception: it also picks up video and GIFs inserted with PowerPoint’s own tools.)

Hyperlinks already in the design need no setup. They come across as clickable regions in the viewer.

Motion that arrived through the plugin cannot be edited on the web. The original is deliberately left intact, so the dashboard’s motion editor will not let you drag or resize those items.

You can still add new motion on the web. To change something the plugin put there, edit it in Figma and run Update from the plugin.

An update treats the two differently — motion the plugin created is replaced by whatever this export produces, while motion you added on the web stays.

Your canvas shifts while it runs

A few things happen in Figma during the conversion. All of them are normal, and everything returns to how it was when the run finishes.

• The frames going out are locked, with the padlock icon
• GIFs disappear for a moment
• Elements flicker if you turned on an extra document format to go out with it

Don’t close the Figma file or the plugin window mid-conversion. The run goes with it, and nothing detects the close — there is no unload handler, so no run is marked failed and none of it resumes. An Export failed dialog does exist, but it only fires on errors the plugin is still open to receive, and it hedges: the export “was aborted for an unknown reason,” with a closed document or plugin listed as one possible cause among several.

Good to know

• Hidden layers are left out, and so are frames set to zero opacity. Check that everything you need is visible before you send.
• There is no auto-sync. After you change the design, run the plugin again.
• To keep the link, use Update in the plugin. Click the document’s row on the Home tab and hit Update — it lands as a new version and the share link never changes. Clicking Create again builds a separate document on a different address.
• Page order comes from the layer panel — top frame first, on down. Moving frames around the canvas changes nothing.
• Prototype jumps and links hold in a design file, but animations and transitions do not, and jumps are dropped out of Figma Slides. When motion matters, put a video or embed on the canvas from the Insert tab first.

Troubleshooting

The plugin won't run

• Refresh the Figma desktop app or your browser.
• Remove the plugin and install it again.
• Check the plugin permissions on your Figma account.
• Looking for it in FigJam? It isn’t there — the plugin supports Figma design files and Figma Slides, and FigJam’s plugin list won’t list it. Open a design file or a Slides deck.

Sign-in never finishes

• Sign-in runs in a browser popup, and the panel waits on Please complete it on the web… while it polls. A blocked popup leaves it waiting there for good — no error appears. Click Cancel, allow popups for the site, and sign in again.

Frames go missing

• Check that the frames you want are selected.
• Hidden layers and frames at zero opacity are excluded.

The pages come out in the wrong order

• Order follows the layer panel, not the canvas: top frame first, on down. Drag the frames to resequence.

A folder won't let you pick it

• Shared folders you cannot edit still appear, greyed out. Click one and you get “You do not have edit permission for this folder.” Ask for access or pick another folder.
• The space comes from the dashboard. Switch spaces there and relaunch the plugin.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Figma plugin on the free Starter plan?

Yes. It works on every plan, including the free Starter plan. All you need is edit access to the folder you upload to.

Where do I install the Figma plugin?

From the FeatPaper plugin page on Figma Community. Opening an empty folder in My Documents also shows a Figma icon that leads to the same page.

What decides the page order?

The order the frames stack in the layer panel — top one first, on down. Where a frame sits on the canvas has no say in it, so nudging frames around will not resequence the pages. Drag them in the layer panel instead.

Can I choose which space the document lands in?

Not from the plugin. It always uses the space you last opened in the dashboard, and you only pick the folder. Switch spaces in the dashboard first, then relaunch the plugin.

I was invited to someone else's folder with edit access. If I send a design there, who owns the document, and which plan sets the link cap and analytics?

A folder you joined with edit access appears in the plugin’s folder list. The document you send there is recorded as one you uploaded, but it registers to the space that owns the folder. The per-recipient link cap (3 on Starter, 10 on Pro, unlimited on Business and Enterprise) and the viewing analytics follow that space’s plan, not your personal plan.

Can I send several frames at once?

Yes. The frames or pages you select become a single document, and each frame becomes its own page.

If I edit the Figma file, does the FeatPaper document update automatically?

No. Run the plugin again for the new design to land. There is no auto-sync — but Update on the document’s row posts a new version against the existing link, so the address you already sent keeps working and you never go near the dashboard.

Are hidden layers and components sent too?

No. Hidden layers are excluded, and so are frames set to zero opacity. Check that every layer you need is visible before you send.

Can I send a design that uses team libraries?

Yes. A design that includes Figma team-library components goes out the same way, frame by frame.

Do prototype interactions carry over?

Partly, and it depends which editor you are in. Out of a design file, click-to-navigate jumps become page jumps inside the document and clicks that open a URL stay as links. Out of Figma Slides, the slide-to-slide jumps are dropped — only the URL links survive. Either way, animations, transition effects, and any non-click trigger such as hover or drag are gone, and a jump only works when its destination frame went out with the same batch. Put a video or embed on the canvas from the Insert tab when you need motion.

Does it work in FigJam?

No, and it won’t show up there to try. The plugin registers itself for Figma design files and Figma Slides only, so FigJam’s plugin list never lists it.

Is there an upload size limit?

Yes. The same per-plan upload limit applies as a direct web upload: 30MB on Starter, 100MB on Pro, 300MB on Business, and a custom cap on Enterprise. See Upload a document for details. A single video or GIF you insert is a different figure — 100MB regardless of plan.

How many videos and GIFs can one document hold?

Three on Starter, five on Pro, unlimited on Business and Enterprise. It’s a whole-document total, not per page, and only uploaded video files and GIFs count toward it — YouTube and Vimeo links, embeds, click links, and page jumps are unlimited.

Going over doesn’t fail the export. The document uploads normally, but the server discards its entire motion payload, so it opens with no videos, no GIFs, and no embeds, click links, or page jumps. The plugin doesn’t surface the rejection, so there’s no warning to catch — the empty document is the symptom. Cut the count to the limit and export again, or swap uploaded videos for YouTube or Vimeo links, which don’t count. The rule is about adding, though: a document already over the cap keeps its motion as long as the count doesn’t climb.
