Embed a Lottie animation in a PDF
Yes, you can embed a Lottie animation in a PDF with FeatPaper. Paste the LottieFiles embed URL (a lottie.host link) into the EMBED tab and the animation plays on the page. Unlike other embeds, it also plays inline on phones.
When to use it
Section titled “When to use it”- A cover page with a small animated brand mark
- A product explainer where a diagram animates to show a flow
- An app pitch deck with the actual in-app animation
- An onboarding doc that uses motion to point at the next step
Get the link ready
Section titled “Get the link ready”FeatPaper accepts only the LottieFiles embed URL on lottie.host:
https://lottie.host/embed/XXXXXXXX/XXXXXXXX.jsonhttps://lottie.host/embed/XXXXXXXX/XXXXXXXX.lottie- Open the animation in LottieFiles.
- Open its handoff or embed options.
- Copy the asset link or embed URL that starts with
https://lottie.host/embed/.
LottieFiles’ help center explains where to find the embed URL. See Official guides below.
Add it in FeatPaper
Section titled “Add it in FeatPaper”Open the Content tab
Open your document in FeatPaper and go to the Content tab. Only people with edit rights see the editor.
Open the editor
Click the Add video or link card. The motion editor opens full screen.
Pick the page and the EMBED tab
Select the page in the left sidebar, then click EMBED in the toolbar.
Paste the Lottie link
Paste the link into the Embed URL field and click Add. In the editor, you see a frame of the animation as a preview.
Place and resize it
The animation lands in the middle of the page at half the page width, in a 16:9 frame. Drag it to move it and drag the handles to resize. The ratio isn’t locked, so you can make it taller or wider.
Save
Click SAVE & EXIT.
What viewers see
Section titled “What viewers see”- Desktop: The animation plays on the page.
- Mobile: On a phone the Lottie animation plays inline on the page, with no tap card. This is the only embed that works this way.
- Downloaded PDF: A PDF can’t run an embed. FeatPaper puts a frame of the animation in its place, linked to that page of the shared link, and adds a QR code at the bottom right of the page. If you turn off the document’s QR setting, the QR code isn’t added.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Embeds don’t count toward any plan limit and have no size limit. You can use them on every plan, Starter included.
- FeatPaper checks only the link format when you click Add. Whether content appears depends on the sharing settings in Lottie.
- You can also paste iframe embed code. FeatPaper pulls out the
src="…"address, as long as it uses double quotes. - After a version update, motions don’t carry over on their own. When you open the editor, FeatPaper asks whether to copy the previous version’s motion content to the same pages and positions.
- Lottie is a good fit for small, looping motion. Keep the frame close to the animation’s own shape so it doesn’t look stretched.
- In the downloaded PDF, a frame of the animation takes its place, linked to that page of the shared link.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”I pasted the link and got "The embed URL is not supported". What should I check?
The link isn’t in a format FeatPaper accepts for Lottie. Go back to Lottie and copy the link described in Get the link ready above, then paste it again.
How does it look on a phone?
It plays inline on the page, the same as on desktop. Lottie is the only embed that doesn’t use a tap card on phones.
What happens if someone downloads the PDF?
The embed can’t play inside a PDF. A frame of the animation takes its place and links to that page of the shared link, and a QR code appears at the bottom right of the page.
I pasted a lottiefiles.com link and it was rejected.
FeatPaper needs the embed URL on lottie.host, ending in .json or .lottie. Copy it from the animation’s handoff or embed options in LottieFiles.
Can I upload a Lottie JSON file directly?
No. Host the animation on LottieFiles and paste its lottie.host embed URL.
